I LIVE! (yeah, yeah i know i said that already)

so i figured i should post something in this journal already that was more than random incoherent ~~cries for help~~ shout-outs, considering it's 2010 and all. (dude, we're already in a new freaking decade... how old am i again? ugh too old)

so anyway, can't sleep. decided to install google chrome on my comp because i hate IE and firefox developed some weird bug that won't let it open. it's pretty cool so far! it has it's own task manager so i can manually close windows or apps that aren't responding. as a compulsive windows task manager user, me likey this feature very muchey

in other news, i opened my computer this evening (early morning?) because i had an awesome (and almost completely written in my head) fic idea. however, my computer is old and slow (it has a floppy disk drive, if that's any indication) and i got distracted by trying to make it run properly and spent 2 hours uninstalling unnecessary programs. still vacillating on whether or not to get rid of my IRC client. I haven't been on it in years but I fear one day I will need some obscure/dated anime or manga and this will be my only avenue to get it. then again, that might be beneficial for my mental and social growth :-P

3 of my friends are having babies this year, another 3 are getting married this year (so far...those who know me well know my track record with wedding invitations). I am jobless again, which i'm actually pretty pleased about. Already finished reading one book (Zeitoun by Dave Eggers; about a guy who stayed in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina and went around in a boat helping ppl and animals who were stranded in the flood until he gets arrested and detained by Homeland Security. True story! MUST READ!) and saw a load of ppl I hadn't seen in months. Am looking forward to continuing to do more of the same in the coming month or 2, with some writing for productivity's sake.

Anyway, that's the update from me! What's going on with you ppl?

Commuter playlist!!

so a few days ago i posted about how awesomely my music blends in with the city sounds around my workplace, and scdsam suggested that i create a playlist for the downtown life... well, ask and ye shall receive!

I kinda fudged it a bit so this is more of a "Transit Life" playlist, a set of songs that fit my trips on the train to and from work, walking on the streets around my office building, etc etc.. you'll notice the songs all have a similar type of sound, but really not much else in common. I didn't choose these for the lyrics (except the last one), only for the fact that sirens and cars whizzing by and ppl chattering on the street and in train cars blend in really well with the music itself. So without further ado:

Songs for the Downtown Commuter

The Dandy Warhols - Sleep (rush hour traffic, automated doors opening and closing, this is how we begin and end all of our days)
Jimmy Eat World - My Sundown (this one is nice to listen to when staring out the window of the train with the rhythm of the railroad tracks rumbling beneath your feet)

Fort Minor - Slip (leaving work late night, strolling down quiet streets while cars zoom past and ppl try to have conversations from opposite sides of the street)

Death Cab for Cutie - Passenger Seat (my dad picks me up from the train station at the end of the day and drives me home)

It's a Taiwanese manga...almost of the same vein as Skip Beat, but there are TWIN bishounens... yes... and they're both delicious... not sure how i feel about the heroine tho.. i sometimes feel like her characterization is a little inconsistent (maybe i just want her to be more like Kyouko ^^;) but i like the storyline... it's very fun.. check it out if you haven't already!

Everything about her glows.

In the sunlight, her skin radiates golden bronze, like the statue of an ancient goddess, like he imagines Agni’s wife must have looked like. When she is happy, a dusky blush illuminates her face, and somehow the pinkish tint ends up reflecting onto his cheeks as well.

But, it’s only in the moonlight that she really shines.

There is something unearthly that flickers in her eyes when she stands under the moon, as if she’s channeling the spirits themselves. The water she is bending glitters around her like liquid diamonds, and on the nights when the moon is full and heavy, he feels as if she could overturn the oceans themselves until they billowed over the continents and drowned the land beneath them.

His heart is tight as he watches her, the power in her movements suffocatingly beautiful. He marvels at her ability to both freeze him in his tracks and melt his bones under his skin at the same time. He remembers the story of the moth who would destroy himself out of love for the flame, annihilate himself to be one with her. He wonders if the flame could love the sea with such a passion, and extinguish himself to be with her.

Zuko takes a running leap into the ocean (to Katara) to find out exactly that.

Day/Theme: Aug. 10 - out of the lightning dream

It felt like she would never stop falling, like she was floating in midair, like time had stopped. It started again suddenly, and she was on the ground before he could blink, like a crumpled doll, broken and still. It felt unreal, impossible, that after all this time apart, all this time he’d spent looking for her… She couldn’t leave him like this, not again. It couldn't be true. He turned her over on his lap, and her eyes slipped open, like she was half asleep.

“It’s all just a dream,” she murmured, before going limp in his arms. If it was a dream, did that mean he was still sleeping? That she’d woken up somewhere, without him? Yes, it had to be a dream, because this couldn’t be his life. This couldn’t be all there was to it. This suffering, this loneliness, this couldn’t be living. He would wake up now, he’d leave this dream and find her again. Vicious would do it, Vicious would shake him into consciousness. He owed his former partner that much.

And when that sword plunged into his chest, he didn’t feel it at all. He could feel the blood pouring out of his wounds, the gun in his hands, the roaring in his ears, but there was no pain. And then it was quiet, and there was light. When he fell, it was like that odd sensation of settling back into your body right before you wake in bed. He knew then that he would see her again soon.

::sigh:: as much as it makes me want to cry, I love the ending to this series.. it's so freaking shakespearean!

So since fst is a member-locked community, I thought I would pimp the soundtrack I made for my Ordinary fic arc here on my journal as well. This has been 6 years in the making, people!! Thank god for Anything Goes Month! (Also, many thanks go to coley_merrin and
zapenstap who checked out the tracklist for me and helped me figure out which songs should be included in this monster ^^)

Ok so back in 2003, when the Gundam Wing Fandom was still going strong, I used to write fic for it. One of those fics was a series of 3 Relena-centric oneshots that took place about 10 years after the anime's ending. The fic describes Relena in the midst of a quarter-life crisis, trying to understand what she wants out of life and bumping into a mysterious stranger along the way. It was half inspired by my own college woes and mostly inspired by tons and tons of music. I had meant to create a soundtrack for the fic years ago (6 to be exact), but never got around to it. I figured Anything Goes Month was as good a time as any to let myself fall back into the nostalgia of writing fic for Gundam Wing.

(I have noticed that people don't really post Fic FSTs on this comm and now I'm thinking I'm probably committing some terrible FST faux pas by putting this up on the comm. Feel free to send the lynch mob after me if I've offended anyone's sensibilities, but I scoured the Rules and FAQs to make sure this was ok ^^;)

So like I said, there was tons and tons of music involved in this project. I tried to cut down as much as possible, but just ended up cutting it down into three parts, one for each one-shot in the series. (...plus some bonus tracks) I put up everything on Mediafire so feel free to yank as many or as little of the songs as you like. I want some well thought out post-series character development!! if I knew how to write it, i'd do it myself! my one fic idea kind of died.. do you remember it coley_merrin ? I think it grew too big in my head and got convinced that i'd never be able to write it all.. i need to do that 1 inch picture frame thing..

anyway grandlarseny , today is that last day of june and i never finished posting my fic recs... but then again.. nobody else did either... soooo.. i don't feel so bad? ::sheepish:: do we have a new challenge for july? maybe i should just post my recs here...

There is the past and there is the future. And what of now? Now, she sits beside Heero, while he reads his book and she writes in her journal. Now, they rest… together. They've each walked their own paths, trying to find their way until they found each other. So they walked side by side as their paths converged until they reached the end. And now, side by side, they breathe for a little while. Now, they have all the time in the world to choose from the paths unwinding before them. This time they’ll walk them hand in hand.

Faye Valentine did not eat corn on the cob. There was just no attractive way to do it. And if Faye couldn’t do something in a sexy way, it just wasn’t worth doing at all. So what if she was hungry? A girl didn’t maintain her figure by eating every time she felt like it after all. No matter what kind of happy sounds Ed was making while gnawing at that bright yellow piece of Genetically Modified Organic Produce, she wouldn’t lower herself to that level.

Ed grinned at her in mid-gnaw, yellow-white kernels lodged in her teeth and clinging to the edges of her lips. Faye raised an eyebrow and pursed her lips, before turning up her nose with a tiny sniff. That is exactly why you’d never catch her dead eating one of those things.

“Look Faye-Faye! It’s you!” Ed brandished her unfinished cob proudly. Sure enough, the corn had been eaten off cleanly from all but two little strips around the middle, looking remarkably like it was wearing her tiny pleather top and shorts. Ed had even colored the top black and drawn in a little red smirk with marker on the pointed end of the cob. The real Faye growled and lunged at Ed.

It’s like a scene from a half-remembered dream; he recalls the scent of candles and incense and that musty smell you can only find in the wooden pews of an old church. He remembers the feeling of warm limbs wrapped in layers and layers of cloth enveloping him, creating a cocoon of safety, protection and love; at once trapping him and rescuing him into their folds.

He wonders now if it’s a real memory or only a wish, a conjured image to help him through the wars and their aftermath. He compares the feeling of holding this petite and fragile woman to that image in his mind, notes the differences and wonders again. How strange to be able to embrace someone so completely, to wrap his hands around her and find that they overlap. How odd that this time he is the one enveloping her and still the cocoon he creates covers him as well; in safety, protection and love.

Worst feeling in the world is wanting to write, having the time to write, and sitting down to find out there is nothing in your head worth writing.

Maybe I need to go slow, so.. pick a series/character and give me a word.. i will try my best to push something out.. (and yes, even drama series, novels and random shoujo manga i'm reading is open)

also, i'm trying to compile a list at myanimelist.net so you can check me out there to see what i've seen and read (though it's nowhere near a complete list) you should all join too! it's like goodreads for otaku :-P
