Title: The Moth and The Flame

Everything about her glows. 

In the sunlight, her skin radiates golden bronze, like the statue of an ancient goddess, like he imagines Agni’s wife must have looked like. When she is happy, a dusky blush illuminates her face, and somehow the pinkish tint ends up reflecting onto his cheeks as well. 

But, it’s only in the moonlight that she really shines.  

There is something unearthly that flickers in her eyes when she stands under the moon, as if she’s channeling the spirits themselves. The water she is bending glitters around her like liquid diamonds, and on the nights when the moon is full and heavy, he feels as if she could overturn the oceans themselves until they billowed over the continents and drowned the land beneath them.  

His heart is tight as he watches her, the power in her movements suffocatingly beautiful. He marvels at her ability to both freeze him in his tracks and melt his bones under his skin at the same time. He remembers the story of the moth who would destroy himself out of love for the flame, annihilate himself to be one with her. He wonders if the flame could love the sea with such a passion, and extinguish himself to be with her.
 

Zuko takes a running leap into the ocean (to Katara) to find out exactly that.

Title: Gently Into that Good Night
Day/Theme: Aug. 10 - out of the lightning dream
Series: Cowboy Bebop
Pairing: Spike/Julia

It felt like she would never stop falling, like she was floating in midair, like time had stopped. It started again suddenly, and she was on the ground before he could blink, like a crumpled doll, broken and still. It felt unreal, impossible, that after all this time apart, all this time he’d spent looking for her… She couldn’t leave him like this, not again. It couldn't be true. He turned her over on his lap, and her eyes slipped open, like she was half asleep.

“It’s all just a dream,” she murmured, before going limp in his arms. If it was a dream, did that mean he was still sleeping? That she’d woken up somewhere, without him? Yes, it had to be a dream, because this couldn’t be his life. This couldn’t be all there was to it. This suffering, this loneliness, this couldn’t be living. He would wake up now, he’d leave this dream and find her again. Vicious would do it, Vicious would shake him into consciousness. He owed his former partner that much.

And when that sword plunged into his chest, he didn’t feel it at all. He could feel the blood pouring out of his wounds, the gun in his hands, the roaring in his ears, but there was no pain. And then it was quiet, and there was light. When he fell, it was like that odd sensation of settling back into your body right before you wake in bed. He knew then that he would see her again soon.




::sigh:: as much as it makes me want to cry, I love the ending to this series.. it's so freaking shakespearean!

There is the past and there is the future. And what of now? Now, she sits beside Heero, while he reads his book and she writes in her journal. Now, they rest… together. They've each walked their own paths, trying to find their way until they found each other.  So they walked side by side as their paths converged until they reached the end. And now, side by side, they breathe for a little while. Now, they have all the time in the world to choose from the paths unwinding before them. This time they’ll walk them hand in hand.

Sorry for taking so long! Here's the little drabble from smartycat 's prompt: Corn on the cob/Character: Faye Valentine

Faye Valentine did not eat corn on the cob. There was just no attractive way to do it. And if Faye couldn’t do something in a sexy way, it just wasn’t worth doing at all. So what if she was hungry? A girl didn’t maintain her figure by eating every time she felt like it after all. No matter what kind of happy sounds Ed was making while gnawing at that bright yellow piece of Genetically Modified Organic Produce, she wouldn’t lower herself to that level.

Ed grinned at her in mid-gnaw, yellow-white kernels lodged in her teeth and clinging to the edges of her lips. Faye raised an eyebrow and pursed her lips, before turning up her nose with a tiny sniff. That is exactly why you’d never catch her dead eating one of those things.

“Look Faye-Faye! It’s you!” Ed brandished her unfinished cob proudly. Sure enough, the corn had been eaten off cleanly from all but two little strips around the middle, looking remarkably like it was wearing her tiny pleather top and shorts. Ed had even colored the top black and drawn in a little red smirk with marker on the pointed end of the cob. The real Faye growled and lunged at Ed.

It’s like a scene from a half-remembered dream; he recalls the scent of candles and incense and that musty smell you can only find in the wooden pews of an old church. He remembers the feeling of warm limbs wrapped in layers and layers of cloth enveloping him, creating a cocoon of safety, protection and love; at once trapping him and rescuing him into their folds.

He wonders now if it’s a real memory or only a wish, a conjured image to help him through the wars and their aftermath. He compares the feeling of holding this petite and fragile woman to that image in his mind, notes the differences and wonders again. How strange to be able to embrace someone so completely, to wrap his hands around her and find that they overlap. How odd that this time he is the one enveloping her and still the cocoon he creates covers him as well; in safety, protection and love.

follow the fake cut

in other news, i've been reading a lot of poetry by Rumi lately... he really had a way with words.. i was able to hunt down the original persian so i could get a feel for the rhythm as well as the meaning.. it's been a fun project during my home-bound fortnight..

I've also finally gotten around to finishing up the first season of FMA!  I actually stopped watching a couple episode after Maes died so it's been nice to catch up!  Though I've already been spoiled for most of the big plot points... my next project is to watch the end of Wolf's Rain.. I think I was 4 or 5 episodes away from the final ep and it got licensed.  I didn't enjoy the dub enough to watch religiously.  Actually the only dubs that ever really hooked me (other than GW of course) were Cowboy Bebop and Trigun.

yay for having the time to enjoy my life again! work really sucks the fun out of living >_< if only i didn't have to worry about money

wheee! I finally drabbled after almost a year of no fanficcing!! it's not much, but it's for Avatar, which is a series i've been dying to write for quite a while...  it was for 31_days of course.. i may write more zutara drabbles for the rest of this month's prompts, since they all seem pretty good and easy to work with...

i have also jumped on the bandwagon and done the personality meme ...which i discovered was just a variation of Meyers-Briggs, in which I am usually ENTP... so on that one i get this pretty button

so you guys prob saw it coming...but i had to write a little drabble for Death Note... it was killing me not to (and that's the only time i can actually seem to write) it's just a little L introspective piece... i dunno how spoilery it is... nothing too blatant plot-wise

i still might write that Kira/Misa relationship sketch i was telling faoiltiamataniabout.. they're both so screwed up.. it'd be fun to explore... i'm also thinking about an L/Light fic (when Light is not Kira) but I'm not sure where I would go with it...

also related to deathnote but on a completely different tangent, i was browsing the deathnote comms just now and i noticed someone posted a pic of a person cosplaying as Light posing by the scene of a car accident while writing in his Death Note.. in the comments it said that no one was actually injured in the accident (u can tell from the pic that it's prob just a fender-bender) and supposedly the cosplayer verified this before posing but it's still pretty callous to be finding amusement and another's misfortune to this degree... i mean snapping pictures and posting em on an LJ comm? to make matters worse someone posted this comment to the post: 

Call me an inhumane... person, for all I care, I find the pic amusing. Don`t see why so many people are angered/disturbed by this... even is somebody did get hurt or even died or anything of that sort-- you don`t know the people, you don`t know if anyone got hurt or not, you don`t know why it happened-- why do you care?

which just horrified me, and made me realize why wars and suffering and all the crap that's wrong with the world persist... it's because ppl like this exist... i mean r u freaking serious? "i'm just going to care about me and what happens to me, screw every other human being that walks on this earth, no one else's problems matter but mine"  

part of what makes death note such a disturbing series is the way Kira/Light justifies murdering a bunch criminals before ever letting them stand trial, and how he can make his actions seem legitimate to a sizable percentage of the population... it's supposed to horrify you, make you question your own ideas about crime and criminals... i don't think you're supposed to admire Kira for anything more than his intelligence... and i think that was why the story took the turn it did (see my previous post for exactly which turn that was).. to make us see that Kira/Light is the BAD GUY

anyway...I'm off my soapbox... i'm sure there are a ton of ppl that disagree with me... i bet a bunch of them are the same ppl who ridiculed kucinich when he said during the debate that terrorists should be captured and tried in an int'l court of law and not assassinated at every opportunity...

so sorry for disappearing from chat last night, but it's all CT's fault... i heard it was veeeerrrreh interesting... i plan to get my hands on the transcript soon...

also, in case anyone was wondering whether i ever found that drabble about 'fine-tuning' (a la CT and lemonyloyce 's inappropriate mentor/mentee relationship) i did! and here it is! 

in other news, i have a midterm tomorrow which i haven't started studying for...anybody know anything about Spinoza's Theological-Political Treatise? All i got out of it was that God=Nature and therefore whoever is in power is 'chosen' by God, because it was 'natural selection'. 

I guess that means God chose Bush.

I think I'm an atheist now. 

I should probably read the book again, so I can convince myself that Spinoza has no clue what he's talking about. For my sanity.


I'm still sick.  Anybody know any good home remedies to get rid of phlegm? (sorry if that was TMI) I hate sounding like a 40 yr old chainsmoking lesbian...

ok so i joined this ljcomm called citynextdoorwhich is all about writing setting-based fanfic about specific cities, and this month's challenge was 'Big Cities', so of course i claimed NYC... i know i mentioned this before, and said that i'd prob write host club fic but i decided to postpone that for the next challenge and instead i produced these two pieces... first an HP drabble (Harry-centric) about Penn Station

Penn Station was like a heart that beat twice a day...

and then a short fic about what would happen if Howl's Moving Castle took place in NYC instead of Ingary

Ah, summer in New York City

i think that's the most fic i've ever written in such a short period of time.. gives me hope for Nanowrimo...

speaking of which! comment here if you wanna be added to my nano friends filter, since i'll be writing about very personal experiences and i don't wanna leave those entries public...

Fulfilling the requests from smartycat (lederhosen) and wordynessie (staircase), as well as a prompt from 31_days for today's date ("God made the distance between me and you")... it was supposed to be Tamaki/Haruhi, but it came out as more of a "how am i even friends with this person?" fic...

wheeee! finally finished that 1xR fluff piece i've been (sorta) working on for the past month (on and off)  i got the inspiration from one of the themes from 31_days of course... i rarely write fic otherwise, rite?

anyway, when i call this fluff, it's seriously all fluff, no plot, no character development, jus all the stuff in between that we love so much...

Wow...all this time i thought i was a Tama/Haru shipper but here i come out with a Mori/Haru fic... blame episode 7 i guess..

AN: This theme totally screams "Winry!".. the AU is..vague...i've got an entire backstory in my head with Roy as the high school principal (and the bane of Ed's delinquent existence) who insists on miniskirt uniforms for girls and Hawkeye as the vice-principal who's always there to give him a good smack upside the head, but alas, none of that made it into this little ficlet.
